Sans Search Engine Optimisation
We build tempting snacks into the fotoLibra website for search engine robots to discover and munch and come back and hunt for more, thereby raising our discoverability and increasing the possibilities of making an image sale.
I don’t know how well it works, because the technicalities are way above my pay grade. We leave it to experts like Damien our Technical Development Manager and the Logical Marketing Agency in New York City.
But I can’t call upon their expertise for my private affairs. When I wrote a blog on Harlech.org about Shakespeare referring to Harlech Castle as Barkcloughly Castle I didn’t hold out much hope that many people would see it; after all harlech.org doesn’t attract enough visitors to feature in Alexa’s index of the top 20 million websites in the world.
Just out of interest I googled Barkloughly. There were 2,660 results. My blog came 48th.
No one looks beyond the first page of Google results, so effectively it’s invisible. Yet Google’s bot rated it above 2,612 other sites which mention Barkloughly.
How does that work? I didn’t do anything to enhance its SEO. Barkloughly is not a word on everyone’s lips. Why should my blog (on a website that doesn’t generate enough data to allow it to be ranked) appear above far worthier candidates?
I’d really like to know!
